March Madness (had to do it)

What's happening in...

Mexico?

Happy Birthday Grandpa! Hope you had a wonderful time celebrating :)
Grandma and Grandpa's newsletter for March is in the sidebar of the blog. Check it out!

Texas?

March in Texas means the start of Spring Break as well as tornado season- both can be exciting! We took the kids to Destin, FL for Spring Break this year. It was such a great week and we are already working on how to get back there in October.

And as far as tornado's go... after several uncomfortable nights spent in our closet during the tornado sirens last year, we moved our camping gear (sleeping pads and lanterns) into the closet. A comfy place to sit, a little light when the power is out, and pop-tarts from the tornado bag make the experience just a little more bearable (pop-tarts have a tremendous shelf life, and it's like Christmas when I pull those out!). It's nerve-racking to wake to tornado sirens, but Im grateful for their volume when the winds come in during an REM cycle! The wind really does sound like a train coming at your house. I'm also grateful that Liam wakes up to the sirens- he is helpful in rounding everyone up and getting them into the closet. I miss our one story house during tornado season- hauling sleepy kids up and down stairs adds to the stress of the situation. Two bad storms down for 2017... countless more to come I guess! But the evenings are cool and the days are warm for the next few months, which makes for a lot of fun afternoons outside.

This pic was from a few miles away. Our neighborhood was fine, but friends from the ward sustained damage. It's amazing how quickly these storms form, blow through, and then clear out. You just can't beat mother nature!

Nevada?

Luke is the starting JV setter for his volleyball team. They haven't lost to a school yet and won the JV tournament last weekend.

Madi got a visit from some BYU women's volleyball players. One of them was her camp coach last summer. They stayed at our house with my sister-in-law's brother and some other friends to watch BYU play in the WAC tournament.

Shamrock chocolate milkshakes were in order on St. Patrick's day. (If you haven't had one you are missing out).

Gator thinks he is one of the kids, gotta love his beard!

Roxy started soccer and scored three goals in her first game.

Blakely is working (bugging) her dad full time while he works from home. She is getting impatient for her pool to be finished.

But the pool dig was a good show for the kids at the bus stop. 😂

Collin attempted to give Gator a shave... it didn't work out so well...

The groomer finished the job and now Luke is wondering why we got a house cat and Cambrie cried because she said he is no longer cute and she didn't want a chihuahua.

The pool dig is coming along. I'm thankful this isn't my real life job and I'm still waiting to be fired as the general contractor. 😁

Our starting setter is no longer... Luke crashed his mountain bike Saturday (March 25th) and broke his collar bone. Surgery was Monday (March 27th).

Also while I was getting ready in my bathroom, so was Blake... In Madi's bathroom.

California?

Our family is staying busy and gearing up for spring break! The boys had a super fun cub scout day camp where we hiked, tied knots, and did a service project for the homeless. I think I am feeling my age trying to keep up with these two! Tessa is counting down to her New York trip over Easter weekend, and is busy with after school choir rehearsals and preparing her personal music each night. Ani got her license and is driving the kids everywhere for me (hallelujah!) and getting ready for Mormon Prom on April 15th. Yes Tessa will miss all the prom hubbub but I think she will be okay with that :)

I am trying to keep my head above water with work and this credential program, but found some time to discover a wonderful hike in our local Santa Clarita mountains right off the 14 freeway. Again, feeling my age and still discovering sore muscles that have not been used for a while. The boys have been in Utah with Jeff since Tuesday learning how to ski and enjoying their little niece Sally. The girls fly out tonight to join them and they get to attend a session of conference this weekend.

I hope everyone is doing well! We miss you and are looking forward to getting together this Summer in Shaver and again at Thanksgiving when Elder Scholz will be joining us! Love you all!!!

Hawaii?

Tanner and Lauren are dabbling in the hotel business. Tanner converted his Honda element into a "hotelement" and has started marketing on social media. Tanner is hoping to meet his goal of making money in his sleep. Just might work!

Utah?

More specifically... Ephraim?

Ali was able to spend her Spring Break with Tanner and Lauren on the beautiful island of Oahu. She had a blast and loved every minute of it... minus the first day with a crazy sun burn! She came back to the mainland refreshed and ready to finish up the semester.

Lehi?

Joe, Larissa and I decided to try out our first flight with JetBlue. Long Beach was the destination we agreed on, and we had a blast! We had no problems getting there and back on standby and found out that the Long Beach airport has some pretty good food! The weather was beautiful and the company was even better. We rented a car and drove down to Oceanside to spend the next two days. Lot's of fun! Larissa is mapping out the next JetBlue flight... we'll see what happens!

Larissa is excited to be finished with cheer tryouts and she will officially be a Skyridge cheerleader next year!

Provo... Wyview... Building 23?

Derik decided to close the chapter on Honduras. He and two of his mission companions made the trek back to that crazy country at the end of March during UVU's spring break. They had some good times visiting some of the families they grew to love on the mission. However, the food did not sit well with them and the heat and the hostiles were a bit overwhelming. So all in all they will not be going back... probably ever. But he is glad he tried one more time.

Sarah opted out of this trip. Unfortunately... or fortunately for her... she had school (no spring break for the Cougars). We got to spend some time with her between school and work and had a great time!

Building 25?

I, Hadley, just finished shooting and editing my first wedding video. It was a ton of fun and I hope to be able to do a few more this summer. I also just applied to a job at UVU broadcasting and will let you guys know how that turns out. Earlier this week I got to go to a Women's Conference committee meeting with Michele where we learned about what service project we would be helping with during Women's Conference. It was a lot of fun and I am way excited for Women's Conference this year.

Sally is starting to pull her self up on tables and the bathtub. She says mama and after Kal practicing with her for a while, she has started clapping! What an overachiever :) We are having a blast with uncle Noah and uncle Mason this weekend and she sleeps great at night after playing with them all day.

Kal and Sally both have been hit with some sickness during this change of the seasons but they seem to be on the mend. We are thinking Kal will leave for his month long ROTC leadership training at the end of May and hope to get that confirmed in the coming week so we can start planning our summer.

Going through pics I remembered a few more March events:
Dinner with the fam. She isn't the most photogenic ALL the time :)

Sunday hike. Sally lasted about 20 minutes.

Out of all the toys, she loves cups and Tubberware lids.

Tried watching Hidden Figures but the projector broke so we just chilled in the comfy chairs for a bit.

Classic first time parents: we ran Sally to the ER one night because her eyes were swollen. Turned out to be double pink eye and drops fixed it in a couple days. After waiting five hours, we aren't going back there anytime soon.
